A Family has just Kitesurfed Across the English Channel.

Ralph Crathorne says: “My daughters Lucy (21), Polly (16) and I (51!) made it across in 3 hours 40 minutes on 21st July. We think this breaks three records; as far as we can tell they are the first women to kitesurf across the channel; Polly is the youngest person to do so; and I think I am the oldest!”

Dan Sweeney Wins Junior British Kitesurfing Championships.

16 Year Old Cabrinha Team Rider and 2008 Youth Empire Winner Dan Sweeney takes the overall win for the Juniors 2009 British Kitesurfing Surfing Freestyle Championships.

The British Kitesurfing Association (BKSA) hold 6 events across the UK were kitesurfers show off their skills by jumping over 40-ft in the air with a combination of spins, twists and tricks that involve looping the kite in the air which generates an amazing amount of power.  Truly a sport thats not for the faint hearted.  Dan was awarded the title at the end of year championships in Redcar on October 10th 2009.

Last year Dan won the ‘Youth Empire’ support by showing that he had the dedication and motivate in becoming a professional kitesurfer beating 25 other talented young kitesurfers under 18 in the UK.  Dan won a full years support on Cabrinha Kitesurfing Products as well as help with mentoring and training.  Since then Dan has been involved in moving the Youth Empire program forward and helping other young people reach their goals and dreams in kitesurfing.

This year Dan travelled to Barbados with the new 2009 Cabrinha Nomad kites to get a little training in and test ride the new Cabrinha 2010 kites.  Since then Dan has been asked to go back with the support of Virgin Airlines to help promote the other islands.  Dan has become a international star.

For 2010 Dan has secured national sponsorship from Cabrinha UK as a team rider and I’m sure as he now moves into the UK professional circuit container for the 2010 professional title.

The New Cabrinha Nomad:

The kite everyone will be talking about is the all new Nomad IDS Freestyle Wave kite. The non-bow hybrid IDS kite combines the best of both worlds…a moderate C shaped arc and an IDS bridle to deliver our fastest turning kite yet. The Nomad crates the type of kite turns that increase in power throughout the turning arc by pivoting off of the wing tip. This makes for powered kite loops unlike anything on the market.

The Nomad IDS comes with two distinct turning options. The freeride bridle setting is aimed squarely at the professional freestyle rider and is balanced to fly perfectly while unhooked. This setting is ideal for intermediate to pro level freestyle tricks or un-hooked surfing.

The wave bridle setting allows a greater level of depower for hooked in surfing. The fast turning speed of the Nomad combined with the quick and short depower throw, make for a finely tuned, predictable surfing kite like no other.

Dom Moore from Kitesurf Magazine talks us through the events of the day.  For more on this and other story's please check out Kitesurf Magazine in all good Kitesurfing Stores NOW!!

You know when the day is going to be a bit special some time the night before. The Horlick’s wasn’t going down as smoothly as usual, and I seemed to have developed a mild OCD by wayof F5’ing Windguru every five minutes and checking my wetsuit was indeed drying out. Yep, that was 4.5m of swell, and yes the wind did look to go off the scale sometime after 3 o’clock. That meant we had a two hour window between the tide getting low enough and the wind going nuts to get out and ride the biggest swell we’d yet attempted in Britain.
